Why Coding Needs to Be More Accessible for Kids—Especially Girls
I’ve been in the tech industry for 17+ years in the UK, and one thing has always stood out to me: there aren’t enough women in tech. The ratio of men to women in tech is around 20:1—and in many cases, we don’t even get female applicants.
It’s not because tech isn’t a great career. In fact, software development is one of the best careers for flexibility, remote work, and balancing family life. But somewhere along the way, girls are losing interest or confidence in STEM. Is it because of schooling? Bias? Peer pressure?
I don’t have the perfect answer. But I do know that big, intimidating words stop kids from exploring coding early. And that’s what I want to change.
How I’m Making Coding Easy & Approachable
Coding is just logic, and logic is something we all use daily—whether we realize it or not! That’s why I break coding concepts down into bite-sized, everyday analogies that parents and kids can easily understand. I want to show kids, especially girls, that coding isn’t some complex, scary skill—it’s just another way of thinking.
If we make coding feel fun and familiar from an early age, we can remove the barriers that hold girls back later in school and careers. My goal is to help parents introduce coding at home, without screens or expensive lessons, so more kids grow up feeling confident in tech.
Helping Busy Moms Simplify Life with Visibility & Organization
I’m not just a coder—I’m also a working mom with a full-time career. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:
➡️ When everyone in the family can SEE what needs to be done, life runs smoother.
Between school drop-offs, work deadlines, meal planning, and activities, it’s easy to feel like the household manager—even when both parents work full-time. But spending just 30 minutes organizing the week ahead can save hours of stress and last-minute chaos.
That’s why I created magnetic family planners—to help other busy moms:
✔ Reduce mental load by making plans visible to everyone
✔ Share responsibilities so the household load isn’t on just one person
✔ Simplify time management so there’s more time for what actually matters
